FAQ
Faro vs Gas/Electric
The Faro heater offers a different experience compared to traditional outdoor heaters:
Compared to gas heaters:
- Lower running cost
- No gas bottles required
- Real flame instead of blue flame
Compared to electric heaters:
- Higher heat output
- No electricity required
- Creates both heat and atmosphere
The Faro combines performance, efficiency, and real fire experience in one system.
Designed for those who want more than just heat β but a complete outdoor experience.
How does the Faro operate?
The Faro heater uses clean-burning wood pellets to generate heat and flame.
Pellets are loaded into the top tank, and as they burn in the combustion chamber below, new pellets are automatically fed down by gravity, creating a continuous and stable burn.
Operating the heater is simple:
- Load the pellets into the tank
- Open the airflow (damper)
- Ignite the flame
After ignition, the heater runs on its own with minimal intervention.
It typically takes around 15β20 minutes for the flame to fully develop and reach the top of the glass tube.
The tank is designed to hold enough pellets for approximately one full burn cycle (around 2 hours).
For best performance, it is recommended to refill before the fuel runs completely low or once the heater has cooled down.
Allowing the fuel level to drop too much may reduce efficiency and cause temporary smoke.
How much heat does produce?
The Faro is designed with adjustable heat performance, depending on the flame tube size:
- Standard tube (1118mm - included): up to 6.5kW, ideal for smaller or sheltered areas
- Extended tube (1500mm β optional upgrade): up to 13kW, perfect for larger or open spaces
This flexible system allows you to adapt the heater to your environment.
How large an area can it heat?
The heating coverage depends on factors such as wind, temperature, and how enclosed the space is.
As a guide:
- The Faro provides strong radiant heat around the unit
- Ideal for small to medium outdoor areas, seating zones, and gathering spaces
For larger or more open areas, performance can be enhanced using the extended 13kW flame tube upgrade.
What fuel does it use?
The Faro heater runs on wood pellets β a clean, efficient, and eco-friendly fuel.
Wood pellets are made from compressed natural wood fibres (such as sawdust), with no added chemicals or additives.
They burn efficiently, producing strong, consistent heat with very low smoke and minimal ash.
This makes them a sustainable alternative to traditional firewood, while still delivering the experience of a real flame.
Fuegos also offers premium, New Zealand-made wood pellets, specifically selected for optimal performance with the Faro heater.
Where should I place the heater?
The Faro heater should be placed on a stable, flat surface in a well-ventilated outdoor area.
For safe operation, maintain at least:
- 120 cm clearance above (ceiling or overhang)
- 120 cm distance from walls or surrounding surfaces
Always keep the heater away from flammable materials.
Does it produce smoke?
The Faro uses a clean-burning pellet system, producing very low visible smoke during normal operation.
Because of its efficient combustion, the flame is typically clean and stable, with minimal smoke.
However, small amounts of smoke may occur:
- During ignition
- When fuel levels are low
- If using low-quality or unsuitable pellets
For the best performance and cleanest burn, we recommend using high-quality, certified wood pellets.
Fuegos offers premium New Zealand-made pellets, specifically selected to ensure optimal efficiency, minimal smoke, and consistent heat output.
How much does it cost to run?
A full load of pellets provides approximately 2 hours of continuous heat, depending on conditions and usage.
On average:
- Consumption: ~1.4 kg of pellets per hour
- Roughly $1 per hour of operation
This makes it significantly more economical than many traditional gas heaters.
How often do I need to refill it?
In most cases, the heater will need to be refilled:
- Every 2 hours during continuous use
- Or between heating sessions
For best performance, itβs recommended to refill before the fuel runs completely low.
Do pellet quality and type make a difference?
Yes β pellet quality has a direct impact on performance.
High-quality pellets:
- Burn cleaner
- Produce less smoke
- Deliver more consistent heat
Low-quality pellets may:
- Increase smoke
- Reduce efficiency
- Affect overall performance
Where can I buy pellets?
Wood pellets are widely available across New Zealand.
For the best performance, we recommend using high-quality, certified pellets.
Fuegos works directly with a New Zealand manufacturer to supply premium pellets specifically selected for the Faro heater β available to purchase directly through our website.
These pellets are designed to ensure:
- Clean burning
- Consistent heat output
- Minimal smoke
Using the right pellets makes a noticeable difference in performance and overall experience.
Is the Faro difficult to maintain?
No β the Faro is designed for simple, low-maintenance operation.
With regular basic cleaning, the heater will continue to perform efficiently and reliably.
How do I clean the heater?
Cleaning the Faro heater is simple and quick.
- Remove ash from the combustion area
- Check that airflow openings are clear
- Clean the glass tube to maintain flame visibility
The glass tube can be cleaned in under 2 minutes using a soft cloth and a suitable cleaner (such as standard window cleaning liquid).
Fuegos also offers a dedicated Faro cleaning kit, designed to make the process even easier, including a cleaning stick and cloth for safe and efficient use.
After use, itβs normal for the glass to develop a light residue.
For the best visual experience, we recommend cleaning the tube before each use, although frequency ultimately depends on personal preference.
Regular cleaning helps maintain:
- Clear flame visibility
- Optimal performance
A premium overall experience
Does ash build up quickly?
No β wood pellets produce minimal ash compared to traditional firewood.
However, regular removal is recommended to keep the heater running efficiently.
How should I store the Faro heater?
For best longevity, we recommend storing the heater under cover and protected from the elements.
- Avoid leaving it exposed to rain or harsh weather
- Ensure the unit is fully cooled before covering or storing
Fuegos offers a custom PVC cover, designed specifically for the Faro heater, providing protection and extending its lifespan.
Is there any fire risk?
As with any real flame appliance, the Faro heater generates high temperatures and must be used responsibly.
- Keep away from flammable objects
- Do not hang items on the heater
- Ensure proper clearances are maintained
When used correctly, the heater is safe and reliable.
